Obodo is the IGBO word for both "city" and "community"

The Igbo people are one of the largest and most industrious ethnic tribes of Western Nigeria.​
We offer strategic solutions for immediate community problems, funding opportunities for service providers and grassroots leaders, and support for the people of these beautiful neighborhoods who have long been overlooked, marginalized, and oppressed.

These are our homes and our neighborhoods and there is a long history of systemic issues that need to be addressed. At Obodo we are committed to the long-term work of tackling multi-generational poverty and transforming our communities into a vibrant, healthy, and supportive place to live.

We can't do this alone.

We rely upon the services and support of our sister aid agencies, our generous donors, and most importantly we rely upon our community members to engage in the work to help uplift our neighborhoods. We believe "Get help, give help" captures what Obodo means: When we are invested in each other we create a resilient neighborhood.

Tackle Multi-Generational Poverty

Childhood Education

Access to education is the most important step towards a prosperous future. Obodo offers support to connect families to Head Start and other educational programs that will support their children academically and encourage positive career development. 

Job Training/Placement

Job placement and workforce training create pathways to stable, living-wage careers. Through classes, resume building oppurtunities, and by connecting community members to potential employers, Obodo aims to ensure job security for all.

Food Security

Access to healthy food is essential to building healthy and thriving communities. Obodo operates an urban farm and green grocer to provide fresh, nutritious foods to families in food deserts and increase access to healthier choices.

Stable Housing

Stable housing provides the foundation for individuals and families to build a secure and prosperous future. Obodo supports community members through housing-related legal proceedings and payment assistance while connecting individuals experiencing homelessness with available housing resources.

Health and Wellness

Health and wellness are key to creating strong, resilient communities. Obodo provides cooking classes, mediation circles, and community gatherings that empower individuals to develop healthy habits, strengthen relationships, and support their overall well-being.

Community

Obodo means Community. Creating a safe and resourceful  space ensures everyone has the ability to grow with the help of others.
